ソフトウェア品質の評価と追跡を専門とするオランダのTIOBEソフトウェアが毎月発表する「TIOBEプログラミングコミュニティーインデックス」（通称「TIOBEインデックス」）。
このTIOBEインデックスからは、それぞれのプログラミング言語がどれだけ話題になっているかがわかりますが、2026年9月のデータは以下の通り。

9月の注目ポイント：Juliaは再びトップ20に返り咲くのか？
2023年の夏、Juliaは史上初めてトップ20入りを果たしました。今月、Juliaは再びこの特別なグループに返り咲く寸前となっています。先月、私は数十年にわたりトップ20の座を維持してきたMATLABの衰退について取り上げました。今月、MATLABはさらに2つ順位を落としています。先月触れなかった点として、JuliaはMATLABのシェアを奪ったプログラミング言語の一つであるということです。MATLAB、Julia、Python、Rは全て、数値計算、科学計算、モデリング、データ処理に強みを持っています。長年にわたり、PythonとRの両方がMATLABの市場から大きなシェアを獲得してきましたが、Juliaも間違いなくその一部を獲得しています。
では、Juliaは今後も定着し続けるのでしょうか？これは答えるのが難しい質問です。現時点では、Juliaは比較的ニッチな分野に集中しており、汎用プログラミング言語としてブレイクするには至っていません。確かに高速ですが、もっと高速なプログラミング言語も存在します。学習も比較的容易ですいが、同様の特徴を持つ代替言語も数多く存在します。Juliaには強力で熱心なユーザーコミュニティがありますが、やや意外なことに、昨年行われた有名なStack Overflowの最も評価の高いプログラミング言語調査にはランクインしませんでした。
上位10位の順位は驚くほど安定していますが、20位前後では興味深い動きが見られます。PerlとRubyがトップ20から姿を消し、その代わりに2つのAdaとObjective-Cという古参言語がランクインしました。どちらの言語も数十年の歴史を持ちますが、今月のランキングでは再び勢いを取り戻しています。

September Headline: Is Julia going to re-enter the top 20?
In the summer of 2023, Julia entered the top 20 for the first time in its history. This month, it is close to making it back into that exclusive group. Last month, I highlighted the decline of MATLAB, which had been a top-20 language for decades. This month, MATLAB drops another two positions. What I did not mention last month is that Julia is one of the languages that has taken a share of MATLAB’s territory. MATLAB, Julia, Python, and R all have strong roots in numerical computing, scientific computing, modeling, and data processing. Over the years, both Python and R have taken a significant share of MATLAB’s market, but Julia has certainly claimed part of that pie as well.
So, is Julia here to stay? That is a difficult question to answer. So far, Julia remains concentrated in relatively niche domains and has not yet managed to break through as a general-purpose programming language. It is fast, but there are faster languages. It is relatively easy to learn, but so are many alternatives. Julia has a strong and enthusiastic user community, although, somewhat surprisingly, it did not appear in last year’s famous Stack Overflow survey of the most admired programming languages.
The top 10 remains remarkably stable, but there are some interesting developments around position 20. Perl and Ruby have now left the top 20, making room for two oldies: Ada and Objective-C. Both languages have been around for decades, but are showing renewed strength in this month’s ranking.
